A tanker ship carrying 50,000 liters of diesel oil capsized and spilled its content into the sea off East Java province Tuesday.

The incident occurred when the Karisma Selatan tanker owned by local shipping firm PT Pasifik Selatan was filling in the diesel fuel at the Tanjung Perak Port in the provincial capital of Surabaya.

No one was injured in the incident, which disturbed traffic in the country's second largest port, reported the national Antara news agency.

It is estimated to take at least two weeks to evacuate the wreckage of the tanker, local coast guard official Suhargo was quoted as saying.

He said investigation on the incident by security officials was under way.
